BIG YIN STARTS MOVING SOUTHWARD

No not Billy Connolly, a big yin of the feathered variety, a Sandhill Crane.

The Sandhill found on South Ronaldsay on 22 Sep 09 finally crossed the sea to the Mainland UK yesterday. By 1425 hrs it had moved south to Kildary, near Milton, north of Inverness. Hopefully the bird will move down through the UK, hopefully through Yorkshire (!), rather than heading east across the North Sea. When I was in Canada I was told these birds can migrate up to 600 a day, so this could be in an area near you soon!

There has been recent news of a Sandhill Crane in France, so the chance of seeing this splendid bird has probably passed (for this year).

I was rather hoping that in a coincidence of the century it would drop in at Barnes when we visit on Sunday!
