Week 2 - Wot no birds?

Week two has seen a slow down in birds; its rather hot and I've only been running or walking just before last light. That said I have found a couple of Bay-backed Shrikes, a Rock Thrush, Desert Lesser Whitethroat and have had two Eastern Olivaceous Warbler's (both in the hand as I rescued them from the Field Hospital Reception). Off out this afternoon to try and bag some other species. Tree Sparrow, Palm Dove, Crested Lark and Common Myna are breeding and for those with a penchant for Dragonflies I have found Lesser Emporer. As I type it is 35 degrees outside, not a cloud in the sky and life is rather good considering. Good birding

Yesteday's walk produced a very obliging male Isabelline Shrike which was most unexpected. Still plenty of Eastern Olivaceous Warblers and Lesser Whitethroat around.

The Isabelline Shrike stayed for two days only to be replaced by a stunning male Bluethroat. Most birds I have seen have been in one of the contractors compounds. This area, the size of three tennis courts has produced:

Long-tailed Shrike
Bay-backed Shrike
Isabelline Shrike
Rock Thrush
Bluethroat (Red spotted race)
Lesser Whitethroat

I will continue to watch this place with vigour.
