Army Birding

Little at the Waste Water Site at the beginning of the week with twenty Spanish Sparrows on the 31st January and the usual suspects - Water Pipits, Masked Wagtails and Crested Larks present throughout the week.

Two Graceful Prinia were seen on the 1st February with one singing with more Spanish Sparrows on the 2nd and a Greenish Warbler on the 3rd. Masked Wagtails are now almost in breeding plumage and look stunning and larger than the White Wagtails we know.

Rain stopped play on the 4th,5th and 6th but today (7th) two Common Starlings and a Citrine Wagtail fed alongside at least 12 Water Pipits, numerous Masked Wagtails and singing Crested Larks.

All in all a disappointing week but promising times ahead.

Any Rosy Pipits amongst the Water Pipits? Wikipedia has Afghanistan as part of the distribution. Appreciate that Wikipedia is not always accurate and that Afghanistan is a big country but do they occur where you are?

Rosy Pipit last week - see previous post. Tawny Pipit yesterday. The place is gradually getting better and worth more than a passing look. I might have to get up early in the mornings soon!
