CATTLE EGRETS BREEDING IN SOMERSET

Postby Wandering Tattler » Tue Jul 22, 2008 1:39 pm

A number of us had speculated on the odds of Cattle Egrets breeding in Britain after the recent invasion, prodominantly in the south-west. Well according to Birdguides it has happened! A pair has raised at least one chick this year in Somerset: specific location has not been disclosed yet. The news is said to be broadcast on tonight's (22 Jul 08) BBC1 The One Show, following the evening news as well as Radio 4.

I suspect the Somerset pair are not the only ones. Given that a number have summered in Cornwall there may be a small amount of supression going on in less secure locations. Cracking news though.

To be accurate.....'pairs'!

Regret that the locations will be kept under wraps until after the birds have moved from their breeding sites.
