Recent Northern Ireland Sightings

Wednesday 2 December 2015. The Spoonbill was back at WWT Castle Espie WWT this morning. (Toni Costello).

A Black-throated Diver, 2 Red-throated Diver, 10 Purple Sandpiper were at Groomsport. For those interested 2 Orca were also noted (Dot Blakely).

A flooded field near Moira had 1,000 Golden Plover, 500 Lapwing, 400 Whooper Swan, 40 Greylag and 2 Grey Heron. A flock of 50 Redwing/Fieldfare was nearby at Bridge Road.They were mainly Fieldfare (David Clarke).

CEBWC Field Trip (& Christmas lunch) at Oxford Island saw circa 45 species. Good numbers of coot, tufted duck & pochard on Lough Neagh, both Sparrowhawk & Buzzard put in an appearance, whoopers & greylags grazing the adjacent fields, with ubiquitous gulls keeping us company throughout. The highlight was the Kingfisher on the pond outside the Discovery Centre cafe during lunch! A great day.
