PURPLE HERON BREEDING IN KENT

Postby Wandering Tattler » Wed May 19, 2010 12:59 pm

Following hot on the heals of the AOS discovery of an uncommon breeding pair of Wigeon near Wathgill, the RSPB and Kent Police has confirmed the first known British breeding record of Purple Heron in the Dungeness area of Kent. The RSPB has the pair under around the clock security and has advised birdwatchers not to travel to see the birds as it is unlikely to be successful at the moment. Essentially they ask for patience until the outcome of the pairs efforts are known and it is possible to provide access without endangering the birds (and hopefully their young). One to watch for the future.
