TWO-BARRED CROSSBILLS IN NORTHERN EUROPE

Postby Wandering Tattler » Mon Aug 01, 2011 10:35 am

For the last week there has been an increasing number of Two-barred Crossbills moving SW. There are reports of ten of thousands in southern Sweden and hundreds in Denmark. There have already been reports of birds in the Shetlands, Orkneys and East Yorkshire.

Perhaps a second look at any Crossbills, or Chaffinches hanging on feeders for that matter, is worth the extra effort, this could be a good year for these rare birds.

Fingers crossed Nutcrackers are following behind, it has been a long time since this species last erupted!
