BLACK WOODPECKER
Andrew,
Sounds like a good trip out, with S-T Treecreeper too. Did you hear the Black Woods calling? If I was doing any runs these days i would miss the calls of them on my woodland runs. I used to hear them in the woods around Rheindahlen and the odd Middle Spot.
All the best,
Tim

AMUR FALCON
There are sites within a few miles that as far as I am aware no one has checked because you have to park and walk a mile to get to them. Well known locally for their dragonflies and have had Hobby. I have looked around Leconfield Carrs for it because we are very close. Apart from 30-40 minutes of ha...

AMUR FALCON
Many people in the blog who did not go for the bird have over simplified the ID of it. As I mentioned earlier, it is one thing to sit at home and examine in minutiae a decent photograph. We all now it is far from straightforward IDing a moving bird that shows infrequently, never mind one that is mou...

THE UGLY LITTLE FALCON - AMUR FALCON (TOPHILL LOW)
It appears the scruffy little grey falcon that has spent a month in East Yorkshire has moulted into a male Amur Falcon. Unfortunately the photo that really adds weight to the identification was only taken the day before the bird's departure. Disappointed twitchers are blaming everyone that saw it fo...

Northern Spain
Andrew, Well done on the Wallcreeper! I have still to catch up with one. I have been to several Bavarian sites, some several times, but always dipped. Did you get any photographs? I got one of my long time 'wish-list' species this afternoon though, a Great Snipe at Flamborough. See you at Portland! ...

YORKSHIRE WEBSITES
Roger, The site gives information on Hornsea, Paull and Swinemoor, in addition to Top Hill Low. All of these sites turn up good birds. Other important sites locally which may have more and broader appeal to the membership are: Spurn: http://www.spurnbirdobservatory.co.uk/ Potteric Carr: http://www.p...

TOP HILL LOW NATURE RESERVE - SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE
Doing my local research, been here for 3 weeks already, I came across the following site: http://www.hullvalleywildlifegroup.org.uk/index.html It includes recent sightings, many from Top Hill Low that cover an array of subjects including dragonflies and butterflies. If you can think of a reason to v...

CATTLE EGRETS BREEDING IN SOMERSET
A number of us had speculated on the odds of Cattle Egrets breeding in Britain after the recent invasion, prodominantly in the south-west. Well according to Birdguides it has happened! A pair has raised at least one chick this year in Somerset: specific location has not been disclosed yet. The news ...

Rich, Good to see that the birds are picking up as you return. Great to see you the other night and I wish you well for the remainder of your time there. Mostly DIYing at the moment but had a surprise Hobby over the house on 5 Aug 07, added to which I have had calling Yellowhammer and Canada Geese, ...
