Thanks
As I prepare for my final day in Canada I would like to publically thank Tim Cowley for all is hard work in putting me in touch with local birders and providing a plethora of maps, most hand drawn, with additional excellent information which helped me find numerous new birds. If it hadn't been for T...

A Semi Success
This morning was my last opportunity to bird around CFB Suffield as I had the morning off and I would then be busy prior to departure on Sunday. I woke to storm clouds and by the time I had arrived at the CANEX it was raining. Undeterred I walked to the eastern most pond at the WTP to check for wade...

I returned to the Eastern most WTP pond yesterday during a run - I carried a day sack with Camel Bak and binoculars in. 5 American Avocets still present along with 4 Killdeer and the lone Willet which continued to dive bomb me. As I walked down the path a single Chalidris Sandpiper flew up from the ...

One more Lifer
I walked for three hours today in plus 37 degree temperatures and boy was it worth it. I initially started off at the Ralston WTP and worked all the ponds. The eastern most one was most productive with 1 Lesser Yellowlegs, 5 Greater Yellowlegs, 8 American Avocet, 1 Wilson's Snipe, 3 Wilson's Phalaro...

Re: Canada
Audit takes on a whole new meaning when you lose one of Tony Crease's rings. I can be found on the naughty step for the next few months with mail redirected. So what target birds are left? The season deteriorates in quality with you and us but can you give us 'armchair New World birders' an idea of...

BBRC Work in Progress File
Below is the link for the BBRC current decisions. Some are still in consideration. You will notice that the Druridge Bay Slender-billed Curlew is currently in for reconsideration. This has been debated on Birdforum with some stating that it is being reconsidered after the tentative Minsmere bird was...

Geater Yellowlegs - on my patch at least!
There has been much commotion on Birdforum today following a report of Greater Yellowlegs being seen in the Midlands and hundreds of twitchers abandoning work, the dole queue and families to travel to see it, tick it off only to find out, some hours later, that it was in fact a Greenshank. There are...

Kinnivie Marsh
I stopped off briefly at Kinnivie Marsh on the way back from Calgary; I'd just dropped off a Brigadier after a visit and had sneeked my scope into the car just in case. Plenty of Black and Common Terns around and a lone American White Pelican over. Most of the wildfowl are now in eclipse plumage and...

Photographs
I have been posting Canadian Wildlife Photos on Facebook and more latterly on Birdforum. I have been pleased with my results thus far, having borrowed the Camera from Bn, and not really photographed any wildlife outside of Ascension Island. Today I received a PM on Birdforum wanting to know how much...

Wader Delight
If you enjoy Waders as much as I do then the following, all seen in one view through my scope, will make your mouth water. Lesser Yellowlegs (1) Marbled Godwit (1) Wilson's Phalarope (3) (spinning as Phalaropes are prone to do). American Avocet (2) Killdeer (1) Short-billed Dowitcher (lifer 78 of th...

Cinnamon Swirl
I had the use of a vehicle so instead of having to trudge three miles or so to the Ralston WTP I drove, parked up, popped on my 'scope window mount and scanned the area. Immediately I found a mixed flock of Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs and Wilson's Phalarope totalling in excess of 30 birds. Hopes o...

A slough too far!
The last couple of weeks have been mostly spent at work; the taxpayer is now getting his worth out of me. That said I have managed to get out and check out the local sloughs which have turned up a couple of gems most notable American Bittern (last seen in by me at Marton Mere, Lancashire in the 80s ...
